About Us
CEDIA, the Centre for Endoscopic Data Integration and Analysis, was founded by Dr. Daniel von Renteln, gastroenterologist at CHUM and Professor of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. Since its founding, CEDIA has recruited more than 10,000 patients and built the largest high-definition endoscopic video bank in Canada, with rich clinical data and high-quality annotations, a unique resource for research and AI collaboration.
At CEDIA, we research and evaluate artificial intelligence tools for gastrointestinal endoscopy, working closely with academic and industry collaborators to assess their performance and clinical applicability. Alongside AI research, we conduct multicentric randomized controlled trials to rigorously test new endoscopic methods and technologies, and we run large-scale registries and cohort studies to generate real-world evidence that shapes clinical practice.
Cancer prevention is a thread that runs through all of our work, from the datasets we curate, to the trials we run, to the AI tools we evaluate in real clinical settings. With more than 190 publications in world-leading journals, CEDIA is a nationally recognized leader in GI endoscopy research, working with collaborators across Canada and internationally to advance the science and technology of gastrointestinal cancer prevention.
